This year on the first Sunday of September there will be the Great Historical Regatta in Venice. There are many different regattas for this occasion, but the most spectacular one of the day is the procession on the Grand Canal of the special boats with eight oarsmen dressed elegantly. At the end of the procession is the Doge in a red and gold robe and cape, with the ducal crown on his head, while four Oriental ambassadors and eight young maidens escort Catherine Cornaro, Queen of Cyprus. The accompaniment recalls the triumphal welcome in tribute to the queen when she returned to Venice and made the donation of her realm to Venice.

This year again the Associazione Culturale Musica Venezia will present a concert of sacred music at the San Salvador Church, the place where the queen is buried. The concert, which will take place Saturday 31 August, will have music by G. Verdi, A. Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart and F. Schubert performed by the Chorale du Delta of Paris, Coline Serreau, conductor. The concert will be introduced by Ilaria Pasqualetto (in Italian) and Roberta Reeder (in English).
