This month the series “Musica a Casa Goldoni” will be devoted to the music at the court of the famous Prussian king Federico il Grande, whose love of music was equal to his passion for war. Federico played the flute and had a wonderful ensemble of musicians at his court in Potsdam, which included C.P.E. Bach, son of the more famous Johann Sebastian. J.S. Bach wrote in a dense polyphonic style, but his son introduced a new musical mode, the stile galante, with simple, clear melodies that emphasize feeling and emotion, the same style so popular in Venice with composers like B. Galuppi and B.Marcello. Both the flute and keyboard (tastiera) were favorite instruments of C.P.E. Bach, who wrote beautiful pieces for both. Some of these will be performed in this concert by Marija Jovanovic, harpsichord player, and the guest artist, the flautist Stefano Bet, an Italian musician born in Friuli Venezia Giulia, who has always been intereseted in the performance and insterpretaiton of instruments from the historical epoch of the transverse flute (renaissance, baroque, and classical). A finalist at the International Festival of Utrecht, he participates as a soloist and in orchestras at various international festivals such as the Bologna Festival, the Dresden Music Festival, the Utrecht Early Music Festival, Salzburger Bachgessellschaft e Wien Musikverein. He has appeared on radio and TV on the main national European stations and has recorded CDs and DVDs for Tactus, Stradivarius, Amadeus, and Sony. At the concert there will also be an aria from J.S. Bach’s delightful satire “Kaffee Cantata” and a piece by the Bohemien composer F. Benda, an important musician at Federico’s court.
