Campo San Barnaba Square - Venice
The Ensemble MusicaVenezia will perform beautiful baroque music for "Carnival in Venice 2009",
dressed in historical 17th-century costumes from the famous Atelier Nicolai and
playing authentic baroque instruments. There will be a series of concerts in the
middle of San Barnaba Square on February 19, 20, 21, 22 at 4 p.m. and 6.30 p.m.
The concerts include an enchanting love song by Claudio Monteverdi, an important
figure in the Venetian music world, who wrote not only sacred music for St. Mark’s
Basilica but also erotic love songs entertain for the nobility.
The program will begin with a fanfare played by Nicola Gratin on trumpet, with
Giovanni Franco beating the rhythm on drums in the background. This will be
followed by Sara Bino singing carnival songs with Andrea Marcialis on recorder
and they will be joined later by the other two musicians. The performance will
take place February 19, 20, 21, 22 at 4 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. on Campo San Barnaba
Square.
