CONCERT: “MOZART IN ITALY” Friday, 5/12 September, 2008
An early music concert series at Casa di Goldoni will begin on Friday, 5 settembre. These concerts will occur every Friday in September and October at 6 p.m. The music that will be performed will focus on Italian composers such as Vivaldi, Corelli, and Monteverdi as well as composers for whom Italy played an important role in their career, including J.S. Bach, Händel, and Mozart.
The concert on Friday, 5 settembre, will be devoted mainly to works by Mozart. A great variety of his beautiful music will be performed by the Ensemble MusicaVenezia, including “Sonata in D major for violin” played by Diana Lupascu, an award winning violinist from Moldava, and “Sonata in D major for keyboard” played by Marija Jovanovic, who has performed as a soloist on harpsichord with La Fenice orchestra. There will also be an opportunity to hear one of Mozart’s most beautiful songs, “Abendempfindung,” and an aria from the opera “La finta semplice,” both sung by Liesl Odenweller, a noted soprano living in Venice who often sings i n operas at La Fenice and has recently appeared at Carnegie Hall in New York. The concert will include a short episode, “Mozart in Italy,” which will be about Mozart in Venice, Rome, and Bologna -- the people he met and all the interesting things he did while visiting these Italian cities. The scene will be presented by Roberta Reeder in both Italian and English. There will also be the opportunity to hear music from J.S. Bach’s famous “Suite in G major” performed on lute by Pier Paolo Ciurlia, who often appears in Baroque music groups in Venice both as a soloist and in ensembles.
